Founded in 2000, Synology creates network-attached storage (NAS), IP surveillance solutions, and network equipment that transform the way users manage data, conduct surveillance or manage the network in the cloud era. Combining the features of public and private clouds to develop a hybrid cloud solution with a web-based platform, Synology has transformed NAS into a multi-functional device suitable for various purposes.

DiskStation Manager (DSM) is the hart of all Synology devices. It is a Linux based, proprietary operating system, which makes the foundation for the DiskStation and RackStation products.

DSM integrates the functions like:
File server (file sharing) Centralized backup RAID storage Virtual storage, Multimedia streaming DHCP server DNS server Mail WEB server, Database server and together with a number of additional free software packages, it makes Synology products the ultimate storage device all the way up to a medium-sized business with surveillance needs.

NAS

Network Attached Storage is an intelligent storage device connected to a home or office network. From seamless file sharing, to easy collaboration boosting productivity, Synology NAS as an on-premises centralized storage device, can fulfill the needs of modern file sharing and collaboration. It is simple to operate and doesn’t require a dedicated IT professional to install or manage. It can be configured and monitored via any web browser or a mobile app.

NETWORKING

On exploring a more stable, efficient, and versatile Synology NAS, DSM provides rich network management schemes and ensures security at the same time.

Using Synology global cloud infrastructure and hole punching technology, QuickConnect provides a stable and efficient solution to access everything you would ever need, wherever you are, from any browsers or mobile devices. Synology provides free DDNS service with the support of both IPv4 and IPv6.

SURVEILLANCE

Synology surveillance station delivers intelligent monitoring and video management tools to safeguard valuable property and assets. It is a robust video management system that runs on all Synology NAS and NVR products. With intuitive web interface and numerous features, SMBs are enabled to monitor daily operations anywhere, upgrade surveillance storage easily, and record events smartly.

Synology Application Service

Synology Application Service provides a framework to enrich the features and services of Synology packages, including push notifications and profile settings. With Synology Application Service, coherent configurations can be shared across different packages.

With centralized data storage or hybrid cloud solution, simplified data backup, continuous service uptime, large storage, and efficient energy usage - Synology have been striving to redefine what a NAS can achieve.

Synology Inc. was founded in January 2000 when Cheen Liao and Philip Wong left Microsoft to pursue an independent project. Liao was a development manager in the Microsoft Exchange Server Group, while Wong was a Sales Director for Microsoft in Taiwan. The two began to write a new operating system called Filer OS, based on Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD), which was to be used with Fastora NAS hardware to create a NAS solution.
